6AM and we were already on the road, driving out of Bombay, headed for the nearby city of Pune to visit that city’s Akanksha schools. Our second day here and already on the road at 8am to beat the legendary Bombay traffic so we can sit in on one of the Akanksha center’s art classes. The theme of the day, ever so aptly and perhaps in anticipation of the U.P visit, was Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The children were asked to go into the courtyard and gather waste that they could transform into art.

Late last night we landed in Bombay and this morning I awoke to realize I have completely lost my voice. Blaim it on transcontinental migration, from shivering cold snowstorm to sun-drenched seaside…or perhaps an overdose of that Goan specialty, Feni. whatever the case, I am now mute as a mule. The first day in Bombay was action packed nevertheless. We set out for Akanksha to be welcomed by an enthusisatic and excited staff.
