Announcing Uniform Project’s Year 2 Launch!

In just a few days, the U.P will be kicking off Year 2 with our ‘Pilot Series’ – a monthly series of micro-challenges featuring 1 Dress for 1 Month for 1 Cause. Following Sheena’s yearlong reinventions of her Little Black Dress for the children of Akanksha, Year 2 of U.P will unveil a new face in a new dress each month, who will take on the 1 dress challenge to fundraise for a cause of their choice. And it all begins on August 1st!

The Pilot Series:

Who? —Each Pilot will be picked from a niche of unique, creative individuals with exceptional style. So who will be our first Pilot? You’ll have to tune in August 1st to see. We can tell you that she’s an NYC local with a style and point of view like no other. She’s delightful, dry, artistic, slightly subversive, and just cool. You may have seen her around depending on your clicking habits, but you probably haven’t. Quite frankly, U.P has a bit of a girl crush and we think you will too.
What? —Each month, we will raise funds for a worthy cause, in turn bringing global awareness to each charity that we support. The Pilots will reinvent their LBD using preowned, vintage, handmade and donated accessories to give you month-long lookbooks of sustainable style. In turn, we hope you will reward their efforts by making a donation to their cause. Our first Pilot has picked a wonderful educational mission that she worked on last summer, something she believes in and supports passionately. Stay tuned for the unveiling of the first cause on August 1st.
Wear? —Little Black Dresses are timeless staples that come in all shapes, sizes and cuts. We want each pilot to have their ideal dress to carry out their challenge. The U.P has worked closely with our first pilot to design her own LBD. During the course of each Pilot challenge, we will release a limited edition run of the dresses in support of the chosen charity. Tune in to the Pilot dailies to get first dibs when the dresses go on sale!
When? —August 1st will be the unveiling of the Pilot Series, with a new face and new challenge kicking off on the 1st of every month.

The Uniform Project Continues Inspiring One LBD At A Time | The Trim says:
[...] It was only a year ago when Sheena Mathiken launched her now infamous Uniform Project—a curiously clever challenge that called for the young sustainable style fan to wear the same Little Black Dress every day accessorizing using only donated, used, or vintage items for an entire year and blog about her experiences and the lessons learn to raise money for the Akanksha Foundation (a non-for-profit that helps provide education to underprivileged children.) Now, this little exercise in fashion minimalism may seem a tad excessive to clotheshounds like you and me—but 365 stylish ensembles later, the Uniform Project is an unqualified success. Now, the original Uniform Project may be over, but last week saw the launch of a new project: 1 Dress, 1 Month, 1 Cause… [...]

Because a lot of habits are formed in childhood, you should get a little (3-teen) girl to do one of the mini-projects.

I like that this project has the potential to ad"dress" a global audience. I love the idea of the LBD but I live in the tropics and teach outdoor education so black is too HOT. AND as a plus size having been pregnant 4Xs approaching middle age I still have style, but not neccessarily little peter pan dress style. My LBD is more often a sarong...that I wear as a dress, or skirt dressing up & down with items from ARC thriftstore (Association of Retarded, no "Remarkable" Citizens) where I volunteer. I'd love to be a pilot sometime. Susan in the Beautiful Florida Keys...
