Day 8

Mad for Plaid

Yes, the title is cheesy, but I’m truly mad for this plaid semi-sheer crepe dress I picked up about a year ago. It’s vintage and is definitely a few sizes too big for me if the intention was to wear it in the normal way. But I loved the slouchiness of it when worn oversized, and when the sleeves are pushed up and the overlap opened up slightly it makes me very happy indeed. This “slouchy dress over full length dress” look reminds me so much of the fashion I saw on my various trips to Hong Kong back in the day (I used to work for largish mainstream fashion companies). Much of the style I saw there was focused on layering of textures, shapes and colours and not as much on body consciousness…an interesting contrast to much of what we see in North America. I’ve added a cropped black and white patterned tank as well, and a chunky metal necklace I picked up while in the UK last fall.

We’re doing great on the donation front, but still have a ways to go! Let’s hit $1000 TODAY!

I really love this dress! This is a cute look with the plaid, too. I adore the versatility you’ve presented in just 8 days.

Looks straight out of a nursery rhyme or a countryside fairytale featuring cows, milk, and pretty milkmaids. Not practical but awfully cute for a photo-op like this one.

Moo- I’ve been wearing it all day! I’ve worn this plaid dress many times before too…I love how it’s a classic Buffalo plaid, which is usually seen in wools or flannels, but in this case is a semi-sheer crepe…so unexpected!

Checking into UP each evening is one of the highlights of my day Angie! I love your approach to fashion and how you’re making the dress work for you. I guess that’s the whole point isn’t it?

I loved India’s attitude and look, and Isis’s character and runway-ready style, but I’ve got to say that your dress and what you’re doing with it is my favorite so far! When I saw teh other pilots, I was like ‘If I were to do this, I would totally wear a long dress, but I bet nobody else would.’ But YOU DID!!! And you’re doing sucha great job!

i really like the idea of wearing clothes in unintended ways. the way you have the plaid dress tied makes for very pretty layering. i’m enjoying this month!

the way you are switching up this dress is simply riveting. makes me want to look at clothes differently and try things on 5 different ways instead of one to get more mileage out of every single piece. also this is helpful for traveling since it’s just gotten too costly to check in a bag. thanks for broadening my mind. rock on.
