Day 6

Mama I'm Coming Home

So this is my plane outfit. Everyone knows that you have to wear layers on the plane because it always gets so cold! One of the reasons I wanted the dress to be short is because I wear jeans A LOT. I wanted to be able to wear the dress over jeans without having it look too sloppy. The dress does bunch a bit around my waist because the material is thick, so when I get home I am going to try and get it made in another material. When wearing something every single day, little things like this get noticed (and also drive you crazy). A lot of people have commented about my socks and sandals combo, and I have to say that I do it all the time mostly for comfort. When I wear any shoes without socks my feet get… weird. Like sweaty, or cold, or blistery. I really love crazy socks too and I hate it when I’m wearing boots and you can’t even see them. Also the zip up hoody sweatshirt is from a company called Alternative Earth and it’s made with all natural fibers. It is THE SOFTEST SWEATSHIRT I HAVE EVER OWNED. My boyfriend took these photos and I will miss him a lot. He lives in LA and I’m in NYC. WTF?!?!

this is supposed to be a challenge? you’re supposed to wear the same (super nice, custom made) dress for a month and you’re getting it made with a different material 6 days later? jeez.

You’ve got so much style Lesley, it hurts..:)
I thought the denim made actually the dress look more funky than with another material; the cut been very dainty and elegant it may just look too dressed up – all and all Iam looking forward to the variations x0x0

Beg to differ Lyndranette, I didn’t like the ginger winger at all…it was like watching a nature programme- baby fishs been spawned in a pond very slowly… and life got pretty boring over last moth- thank God for Lesley ! I am a new born uniformian…can’t get enough!!!

@Jenn:
Yeah, it’s a nice custom-made dress, but because it’s an original custom made piece, all the kinks haven’t been worked out in the first draft. It’s too short and the material is too thick. Give her a break.

I like your relaxed style, but this outfit is a bit of a yawn.

Give her a break. It IS a new style since she now paired the dress with jeans. And to be comfy on the plane, who can blame her.
I like the outfit, looks comfy.

I don’t understand why she’s getting crap for looking too laid back, shes going on a plane! the whole point of this challenge is to show that an outfit is versatile for many occasions and being comfortable should be one of them.

I think it’s refreshing to see that the outfit can be comfy and laidback as well as chic and sexy. Way to go Lesley…I like that you are being honest too about what works and the reasons why you chose this dress design (ie. you like to wear jeans, you love socks.) This is about Lesley’s individual style and taste and it doesn’t mean it’s everyone’s but it is still fantastic to see each day’s new invention.

This is supposed to be about personal choices and comfort. If you like sandals and socks — well, you should wear them. Forget the fashion police out there. And I like your dress with pants. Looks like a comfy airplane ride.

Sorry you have to leave your boyfriend behind, that’s really hard and I feel for you. Hopefully the new & improved dress will help you get through it (I know that’s unlikely, but you can always hope). @jenn, better we discover the flaws in the dress before reproducing it. Lesley is being a very gracious guinea pig and we should be appreciative of her honesty and feedback.

Did someone just say ‘ginger winger’? Wow what happened here…did people start thinking they own the pilots? Well…you don’t! These fabulous ladies are doing this for a reason. Lesley I love your style, it goes from high fashion to super cool in 5 seconds. Can’t wait to see avatar #2 of your dress…I love the design! P.S: I feel your pain, I did the long distance thing for what felt like eons. But what can’t break you can only make you stronger. Hope you guys move into the same town soon!

@wasabipear, moi aussi. fact! until i gave it away to a young fella completely soaked to the bone, shivering, shaking and waiting for his mother to drive half way across the country to pick him up. he definitely needed it more than me and my life was pretty much back on track at that stage. outdoor festivals in ireland – ffs. drenchtown.

I like socks and sandals too, but these Worishofers are never to become my favourites:-)….maybe because it’s always been a kind of shoes I pair with grannies….I hope you’ll get the improved version of the dress soon and you’ll continue to deliver these original outfits! Personally, I’d like to see more accessories…

from now on I’m always doing socks and sandals – so sensible – who wants all that crap going on with your feet when you don’t wear them – blisters, bacteria, sweat, chills… uh no – not me, not anymore.

You’re right, Lesley, this is the perfect length of dress to wear over jeans. Normally I don’t like that look but with this dress it looks really well put together.

I’m going to be completely honest but I agree with Jenn, I know it’s hard to come up with outfit changes within a month but you can do so much with your custom made dress. I’m sure you have a mountain of accessories to make it even more trendy. But for now you are just playing it safe. You could have frayed the jeans, or you could make a necklace out of paperclips! Good luck.

I absolutely love the cut and design of your dress! Maybe you could try jersey material? I think I’d love that.

Loving the casual look, the cut of the dress is PERfect for wearing jeans with. I bet the double denim is soooo uncomfortable! I’d like to see the dissenters try wearing thick bunched-up material like that for 30 days and not want a change themselves! Love your attitude and style, and the socks-and-sandals bit isn’t making me cringe yet; it’s making me want to try it myself!

I am confused by the choice to build a month around this dress. It is very cute, but I thought the aim with the custom dress was to have something that was as versatile as possible…this dress just doesn’t seem to lend itself to many possibilities.

I am glad to hear your feedback on the fabric and fit adjustments. That means when I buy the pattern for this…I’ll get a 30 day tested and improved version. I now know not to make it in denim!
