Day 2

Safe Sex, Sustainable Truths, and LBDs

After my USC talk I was guest judge of Project Condom – a student initiative to design outfits from unused condoms as a creative way to talk about safe sex. Lady Gaga meets Planned Parenthood. Brilliant.*

My LBD performed beautifully there & added Murakami-worthy character on the plane home. I was channeling Gwen Stefani Harajuku girl w/ a dash of retro school teacher. I was the last seated in an aisled row w/ a seeing eye dog – a fine yellow lab in training & a jilted Russian debutante. My time in extra legroom was short; I offered up my seat for a woman whom, according to the stewardess, was of the “high anxiety” variety.

Back in 7C, there was an unoccupied middle seat, perfect for letting my tulled crinoline pour forth over the armrests. It proved to be a most difficult piece for the safety features of this Airbus A319.Β An oncoming trail of men’s neckties passed down the corridor, each impeccably positioned, snug nooses around expressionless faces. First a burgundy w/ gray diamonds. Then a silver, navy stripe. Next an argyle of eggplant, olive, artichoke.

My own chunky silk ribbon – a satire of ties – loosely knotted, squid brains out, folded over effortlessly – with careless precision – the night before. 11:58PM. Admittedly so, my cerebrum of calamari (Cyberoptix) was the centerpiece that tied my outfit together. Blouse-Billy Reid; vintage cumberbund; tulled crinoline; Isabel Toledo by Payless “shooties;” print ankles socks-Stockingirl; glasses-Robert Marc.

So you’re a model. You’re a smart one. You can dress. You’re obviously compassionate. And woman, you look crash hot. Clearly, you’re winning here! (Don’t hate me for the ‘winning’ reference.)

Sharp and polished. You look well put together and the outfit is full of details and surprises without feeling overdone or fussy. Really nicely done. The cumberbund is a great touch – it almost feels obi-like.

I asked for petticoats yesterday, and here they are! Ace! The fourth shot shows that the dress hangs longer than the petticoats… Is this adjustable at all? Sometimes I like a bit of cheeky peeking!
Would like to say that I am loving the close up shots of the details and accessories! and the tie is double plus good!
