Day 2

Hooray for Groundhog day

Of all the semi marginalized, slept on holidays Groundhog day is my fave. Maybe you expected me to pull out one of the secret weapons my LBD kills things with but I’m building up the suspense. Instead, this is a tribute to Andie McDowell, or to Rita, the apple of Bill Murray’s or Phil Conner’s eye..Yes I am talking about Groundhog Day the movie.. THE Movie. The only movie that was ever made as far as I’m concerned.

Ok, so I’m having a lil’ fun on day 2. You can’t take yourself too seriously. Serious about that, right off the bat. I tried to replicate Ritas costume. Its kind of like a uniform cause she wore it for however many centuries it took Phil Conner to get things right. I went down to The Thing and picked up one oversized mens sweater and dress shirt. I cut the sweater down the front, hemmed it under to make a cardigan. The shirt was so huge it completely covered the dress so I cropped it at the waist and hemmed it. Then I discovered if you button the cuffs real tight and push em up you get a sort of puff sleeve. Cute, but still Rita.

I decided to brave the sleet and ice to read the paper at Friends Coffee on Manhattan Ave and Green St in Greenpoint, the best diner around…to feel more like Rita, in that diner scene. Freddy, the owner, is a real nice guy. He let us take these sweet pics and the coffee is pretty stellar.

Lets hope 120 year old Punxsutawney Phil, (the groundhog) is experiencing the same crappy weather in PA as we’re having today in Brooklyn.. Or else its six more weeks of winter for all.

Shirt and sweater from the thing and today’s photos by Levi Mandel.

I love that you just went out and bought something and turned it into what you wanted it to be. And of course the whole diner setting is excellent.

I like your sense of humour – this outfit is looking a little frazzled but I do like how you accessorized!
