Day 18

Abstract and Modern

Another beautiful fall day in Montreal! I wanted to play a bit more with layering dresses/skirts over the UP dress, so I started with this summer tank dress I bought last year. A vintage belt (as usual), teal leggings and my black combat boots were then added, plus a grey vest I got about 5 yrs ago, and a burgundy silk/knit cardigan I got in London last fall. Nothing that impressive in terms of transforming the dress, but for some reason I really love this outfit…sometimes things just FEEL right.

I ran across a friend the other day who didn’t understand how wearing the same dress for 30 days had anything to do with raising money to build a school. It’s true, on the surface these 2 things may seem unrelated, but doing the UP has made me think even more about how much I have, how to make smart & sustainable purchases and how to get the most out of what I DO have. Can we really spend 1000s+ dollars every year on clothing and not give anything back? Ironically many of the children in India are MAKING these clothes we’re buying!

You’re absolutely right! The world has more than enough resources for everyone and projects like this help us to realise how much we have and how we can help others. Case in point – I have bags at home that are filled with clothes at home because they won’t fit in my wardrobe! I’ve donated today and will be going through those bags tonight lol

Absolutely LOVE the vest!

And I totally agree with you on how the projects are in fact related. The past few months of following the pilot series have challenged me to rethink my own wardrobe and use more of what I already have in new ways. Sustainable doesn’t always mean you have to go out and buy new eco-friendly/sustainable items. Sometimes it just means making better use of the plenty you already have. 🙂

Sorry, but it’s all been so frumpy.

Frumpy? Are you serious. Just because she is covered up doesn’t mean its frumpy. Ang- I think you are doing great. You have inspired me to rock dots and layers in new ways.

I think this month’s been awesome. Great seeing all the ways you can wear a long skirt for those of us who may not have the inclination (or the legs!) to wear a mini skirt every day. Ange, it feels like you’re not running out of ideas at all so feel free to carry on for another month.

anon123 – Criticism without any discussion or commentary to back it up…not really something I can take very seriously.

I love teh colors. Burgundy is one of my favorite colors… I have a pair of converse high-tops the same color that I wear every day. Very nice tights, too.

I’ve loved every day! Not one frumpy moment. I love the way you wear clothing, instead of letting the clothing wear you. In other words, clothing is just a creative palette for you to use, rather than a restriction… i.e. this can only be worn this way. You’ve opened my eyes Angie! Thanks!
