Day 12

Elaine Benes would approve...

Phew, busy day today, and lovely weather to boot! No need for a heavy coat, so I threw on this grey blazer my friend Amanda designed. Today I wanted to play with the idea of trying to make the dress look like it was integrated into a top…as though it was all one dress. So I thought of trying to achieve a colour blocked effect, creating a bit of an asymmetrical look. I wore the buttons to the front, undid the bodice then flipped one half of the bodice down into the skirt. The low V allows it to tuck in really easily and smoothly at the back. I wore a plaid shirt with pleated/puffed sleeves…actually designed by my same friend Amanda…just realized that! Herringbone printed tights of my own design, an amazing vintage belt and boots finish things off.

You look like the heroine daughter of a quirky inventor in a fairy tale. Bizarre and amazing.

This ensemble is brilliant. What a clever idea to tuck in half the bodice!

So super cute!

I love this, mainly because the shape of the dress imitates the way in which Scottish dress drapes a tartan shawl over one shoulder, matching the kilt – your tartan shirt inverts the usual patterning. Brilliant.

Wow, I’m not a fan of plaid, but I am a fan of THIS plaid! So cute! So rocked with the dress! It is very Scottish looking. So very awesome!

is there nothing you cannot do?

Molly – Yes! I was thinking the same thing, especially after looking at the pics…I was reminded of the McQueen dress that Sarah Jessica Parker wore to one of the Costume Institute galas….a very pared down/DIY version of it that is…and as you mentioned…inverted!

I love the shape of the dress today, it makes you look so tall! I’d love to see more like this, especially with the full top as that’s my favourite part of the dress! X
