Day 15

Burst of Sunshine

We are nearing our halfway point with the Uniform Project and it’s sunny enough in Manhattan to have a little burst of sunshine flit across everyone’s screen.

I suppose I’m channeling Carmen Miranda with my 1950s hand-painted, sequined Mexican circle skirt compliments of bonitalouise; hand-knit belt by Pachacuti (known for their Panama hats); and Isabel Toledo shoes by Payless; and fresh cut flowers from Khim’s Millennium Market. I would have put a bowl of fruit on my head, but I ate it for breakfast this morning.

Unfortunately the flowers are not a good reflection as to how I feel this morning. I’m just utterly gutted by the tragedy that’s happening over in Japan. I’m sure snazzy dressing is a nice departure from all the shocking news, but it’s hard to focus because as always, everything is relative – and the severity of the problem knocks everything else out of the way.

Listen, if you’re not devoted to a specific cause already, I’m only asking that you might consider supporting some initiative that is designed to help alleviate the enormity of the issue over in Japan. Thanks in advance and will see you all again here tomorrow. J

Simply gorgeous! I have loved all of your outfits so far – this dress is incredibly flexible in your hands, and you’ve managed beautiful creations with it. <3

I really appreciate the fact that you are keeping up with the project while we grieve for Japan – I know it must be hard – of course I will support a Japan initiative – p.s. you look great and I am glad you enjoyed the fruit

i am due to fly to japan tomorrow morning for a planned family visit. i think it will be a very strange time to be there; every person i see will be mourning someone they have lost. i didn’t cancel the trip – i think their economy could do with the boost that any tourist dollars bring in.

Holly, you’re right. And I wonder how many people will want to head out to Japan to help tsunami victims rebuild, particularly if there is nuclear fallout. I don’t think the international community is rallying in the same way to past international disasters…

love your style, but hate your choice in shoes. really sorry, but they can easily ruin a great outfit, like todays. x

It is nice to see flowers today. Living in Montpelier, Vermont there are no signs of spring yet so these pics are refreshing. My heart goes out to those in Japan suffering such enormous calamity. We have our problems in North America that is for sure but today seeing your fresh flowers makes me thankful for the abundance we do have and how important it is to share our generous selves and our prosperity whenever we can.
